Seems like those people aren't willing to take a leaf from Britain's voluntary aid routes during WWII. Let me tell you, I'm about to list a series of abuses against the European Convention on Human Rights which MY has committed -- and National Service falls under servitude!
I never was cut out for the military lifestyle -- not physically, at the very least. I was the slowest trainee in the entire camp, which was quite promising (not). And I cannot support a programme which whips national fervour into me without me knowing WHAT this national fervour, or service to the country, entails.
@AlbertStClare was one person I spoke to immediately after I came back from National Service -- HE can tell you what I went through, because I certainly didn't hold back.

Yoshiii, if it comforts you any, I have been there and done that. I was singled out (ethnicity-wise) and sent to Miri, and although we hadn't heard anything from that side, NS is still flawed by its very nature. Thank heavens I never had to go again.
It's about high time NS was exposed for what it is.

Sigh...if they really want to keep this conscription thing going, it has to be voluntary. Some people aren't cut out for the military-like lifestyle.
