Holy shit. I'll let that be the opening words to this review.

- The whole thing feels very spacious, breathy and atmospheric. In a good way.
- The melody is something moody and spacey. I really like it.
- The drums sound very nice. Like, it fits just fine with the rest of the track. The snare, lacking low-end but just has the right amount of snappiness to it.
- I've noticed that there are some sound clipping throughout the song. I'm guessing that it's intended. Also apparently, it loops seamlessly with the intro.
- Only complaint is that it's too loud. I had to put the NG player's volume to 11 to get comfortable. Or maybe I have sensitive ears.

TL;DR very atmospheric and chilly song, drums were top notch in terms of sound quality and composition (idk what the term is when you make drum parts), a bit loud but that's not really something to whine too much about

Thrixe responds:

Geez, thanks for that nice review! Yeah, the "clipping" in the intro and outro was intentional :) Thank you for your response, very informational

Nice loop, but too short to be considered a WIP. Try extending it for...I don't know, 20-30 seconds?
Give it meaning (is this the intro, the verse, or the bit where the breaks go nuts?).

DefTeaMachine responds:

Yeah I agree that it was way too early to post this.

This part is probably going to be in that bit where the breaks go nuts

Um...okay, I'm not really sure what to make of this.

But this track definitely sounds perfect as background/ambient music for some freaky sci-fi game/animation. The drums has to go though (or at least make them a lot quieter or not be made of the standard acoustic drum or make them even more hectic).

If you're feeling like going nuts, add in a 4-to-the-floor kick pattern (with some variations here and then) with a really distorted synthetic kick, and occasionally throwing in very hectic drum beats.

Blacklawn responds:

Thanks, but oh, God... Every time people say something different about the drums: "take them out", "put them in", "make them quieter", "make them MORE messed up". I don't know what to think anymore, to be honest... But I'll try again to make something crazy enough to fit the song. And if someone complains again... Well, whatever.

*My long overdue review of your stuff, as you've done for me for "techno thing" back in October '12
*also be warned I'm pretty bad at reviewing so yeah

Sounds really retro, I can tell you that much. Sounds NES-y. If someone made a pretty dark, 8-bit RPG game, they should use this as dungeon music or otherwise I will go to their pages and say really mean things. >:C

I can't help but to notice that some of the melodies past the first minute seem dissonant. I'm guessing that's intentional?

That's all I have to say. :/
Oh, and you should probably make it a bit loopable...?

DivoFST responds:

Thanks for the review :)
I made this just for fun, i didnt really spend much time making it good, its just a shame that it is kept in the top of my audio when it has nothing to do with my style xD

very deep, it touches my heart in a way that nothing else had
expect a lawsuit soon

FairSquare responds:

Sorry for raping your heart, will not happen again!

yes i liek wobs
'tis pretty minimal, and has that frightening feeling. The only thing that needs some changing is the melody. Maybe having some other synths take that melody bit?

la-yinn responds:

Minimal sauce, yum yum

I want to add some more basslines but I just know massive is gonna be a tit and destroy my current patch when I load up another instance. :c

thanks for the review mate

Catchy. Sounds like something you'd hear in The Sims or like those commercials trying to have that hip vibe.

DreamEater responds:

Thanks very much bro, that's exactly what I was going for ;D

First things first, that Far Cry 3's "definition of insanity" sound clip is copyrighted (even a short 5-10 second clip is a no-no), sadly; and therefore cannot be posted here on NG. You'd be better off posting the version with the voice clip on SoundCloud and posting a version without the voice clip.

Did you use FL Studio's stock kick and snare sample? It be better if you'd avoided using 'em dryly (without processing the shit out of it).

You could give the drums a bit of variation by throwing in some hi-hats, or maybe removing or adding more kicks in there.

That little break at 1:55 till 3:25 with the voice clip is...well, WAY too long. You could have made some sort of progression (adding more elements/instruments). And the cut back to the filthy wobbles, with all that tension from the previous few seconds kinda kills it. Try putting in noise sweeps, or giving that string tension some reverb.

SkullDrone responds:

Thanks for the review!

And are you sure I can't even use the the soundclip for personal non-profit reasons? Like I don't get that whole legal shit lol.

And yeah I know the break is WAY too long. But I just wanted to get the whole thing in there because it really explains the whole Insanity thing well (it makes the second drop really have a meaning, if that makes sense).

I will make changes in the percs, this is still a WIP so there is not much detail in it.

I really appreciated your review bro, thanks :)

Uh....where's the song?

Jahn33 responds:

I accidently hit submit b4 i finished sry

Considering that you've used a copyrighted sample (yes, that Spongebob clip is copyrighted), this shouldn't even be here. Either upload this on SoundCloud, or upload a version without the sample. Also, this track is heavily leaning towards house, so yeah.

As for the actual review...

After the build-up, at 0:57, the drums are too quiet. Give 'em a bit of a boost, or lower the volume of the synths. The kick could use some beefing up.

The wobble basses should be an octave lower. Or throw in another bass with a lower octave, to give it a bit of a boost.

Mr-McGifford responds:

Thanks a lot for the review! It really does help quite a bit...

I actually didn't even think of the copyright thing, thanks for pointing that out.
I'll absolutely look into some of the things you've pointed out, and see if I can get an updated version of the song back up here!

Again, thanks a lot!!!
